We are Austria’s largest Research and Technology Organisation and an international player in the research areas that we cover. This makes us a leading development partner for industry and a top employer in the scientific community. Our Center for Energy in Vienna invites applications for a:
PhD thesis “Digital Twins in photovoltaic for performance analysis and failure detection”
The AIT Center for Energy combines many years of know-how in the field of photovoltaics with cutting-edge laboratory infrastructure. This PhD thesis investigates physical and numerical modelling of PV modules in hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments. As part of our international research group within the Competence Unit Photovoltaic Systems you will investigate the application to (a) failure detection, (b) performance evaluation and ageing and (c) applications for “Digital Twins” of PV modules.
The PhD project’s innovation is the improvement of existing models by increasing the precision of different aspects as e.g. shading or albedo for electric characteristics. The connection between these and the physical behavior for failures will be investigated. The algorithms used will be combinations of automated, numeric routines and analytical models.
The steps taken are based on digitalization of experimental data with coupled physical modeling of PV-modules and will include:Parametrized numerical models interacting with expert modelsCorrelation to highly precise experimental dataThe interaction of the mode models and the experimental failure modules in HIL scenarios
Your innovative results contribute to the success of our current research projects.
You will increase your knowledge and experience in the innovative application of You develop prototypical applications of your research results for urban planning demonstration projects.
